Hahnemühle German Etching paper is moderately eco-friendly in terms of manufacturing standards, though it is not part of their dedicated plant-based "Natural Line."

Key Environmental Details

Composition: German Etching is made from 100% alpha cellulose (purified wood pulp) rather than cotton rag or rapid-growth alternative fibers. [1]

Archival & Purity: It is acid-free and lignin-free, ISO 9706 compliant (museum quality), and free of optical brighteners. [1]

Manufacturing Practices: Hahnemühle produces its papers in a German landscape conservation area using pure spring water from its own artesian wells in a closed-loop system, and the company holds environmental certifications like ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and EcoVadis. [1, 2]

Recyclability: Like all Hahnemühle artist papers, it is made from natural resources and is fully recyclable, though it features a specialized inkjet coating
