Abstract Essentialism: The Movement
Explanation
Abstract Essentialism is an art movement rooted in the belief that beneath the shifting appearances of the world lies an enduring spiritual essence. While Existentialist art often embraces absurdity, fragmentation, and the absence of meaning, Abstract Essentialism asserts that form, color, and rhythm can reveal transcendent truths. This movement is not just about personal expression—it’s about aligning with a universal purpose.

My Why
I created Abstract Essentialism – The Movement because, for years, I struggled to explain my art. When someone asked about my style, I’d try phrases like “Abstract… Representational… Impressionistic… with a spiritual meaning,” only to receive polite nods, blank stares, or the occasional, “Oh, interesting.”
One day, while discussing this with my daughter, she said, “Why don’t you just create your own genre?” My first reaction was, Me? Really? Isn’t that a bit arrogant? But the more we talked, the more it began to make sense.
We tossed around words like “existentialism,” but I realized my work was almost the opposite. Existentialism suggests a world without inherent purpose, while my art is rooted in the belief that purpose and design exist—that something higher, some essence, precedes everything. Terms like “teleological” or “theistic world view” came close, but they didn’t feel natural. Then I landed on Essentialism. Paired with Abstract, it suddenly felt complete.
Curious, I asked ChatGPT to suggest artists and styles aligned with this definition. To my delight, it placed me in the company of visionaries like Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsky. That’s when I realized I wasn’t just naming my own work—I was creating a welcoming home for other artists whose work shares this vision.
And so, Abstract Essentialism – The Movement was born.

The Manifesto
- Essence precedes image. The artist’s task is not invention but revelation—disclosing what is eternal through what is visible.
- Abstraction as a gateway. Stripped of literal representation, art becomes a vessel for spiritual geometry, archetypal color, and inner harmony.
- Spiritual purpose. Every line, shape, and texture is directed toward the manifestation of meaning that transcends the artist.
- Unity over fragmentation. Where modern despair fractures, Abstract Essentialism restores coherence between the human and the cosmos.
- Art as invocation. Each work is not only aesthetic but sacred—a reminder that life carries purpose and that beauty reflects the real order of existence.
Beyond appearance, into essence.
