1.0 Title: What a week!

This last week has been full on for me. On Tuesday and Wednesday I stood in for a tutor in my local area teaching the use of oil pastel using the figure as an example subject. The activity appeared to go down very well and I at least felt, and the feedback suggested, that the students may have gained some ideas on the use of Oil pastels as well as some other aspects of drawing skill and colour knowledge. Success!

My car had an MOT on Thursday and surprisingly passed which was a relief.

My art studio downstairs began to be dismantled and everything brought upstairs as I have builders coming in next week. As I write this I still have the carpets to take up but it is close to being ready.

On Saturday we had our AGM for the Devon Art Society which is always made to be a pleasurable activity as we take food to have after and it becomes a wonderful social event.

2.0 Title: On the Easel!

Today at the art club I started working on four small panels, the title for the subject is “Who Am I – As a Whole Soul” (Note: If you read to the end of section 3 of this newsletter you will gain a slightly deeper understanding of the idea behind the subject).

The big question is, how can I expect to create an image that depicts an answer to that question?

So I began with the following saying in my mind, “If you step on the path, the way will open up before you!”

By accepting the challenge and beginning the artwork I stepped onto the path. I started by choosing a colour, light blue, which I feel to some extent represents me and which I feel comfortable with and applied this to some areas of the painting. From there I considered which colours to use in a limited palette and again which I like. I attempted to allow my inner feelings to guide me with the application techniques.

The images below are the results of the first session. I do not consider the images to be anywhere complete and will continue with more inspired layers. I do however like the progress made so far and feel that I may still be following the “way”.

At 3 O’clock this morning, the night after starting the above paintings, I woke with inspired thoughts in my mind that just would not allow me to sleep. I had to get up and write them down. I went back to bed with all sorts of thoughts and ideas penetrating my brain. In the next newsletter I will tell you what they were, but what I will say is that I feel like I was definitely shown ‘The Way’ not only with this painting but possibly with ideas for artworks for others.

3.0 Title: The Subtle Art of Losing Yourself by George Thompson – And Who am I

I want to share a You Tube video that is created and published by George Thompson. I feel it is an interesting video for all of us to watch and may be pertinent to the artistic mind. Once you have viewed the video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KArWcMldPM&t=0s

Please consider the following ideas and self questions. I believe it may bring hidden depths of self wonder and awareness into our whole being.

This is the idea to consider and these are the questions:

1. First consider the possibility that we continue to exist in some form after our body dies.

2. Consider that this form may be what we have been told is a spirit and that we have a spirit body. Along with this we are consciously aware of that existence when we are there in spirit as a soul being.

3. There is a significant amount of evidence that supports the idea of reincarnation and that we have had a number of previous lives in physical form.

While holding these ideas in your mind consider the following questions:

Q1: Who might we be as a whole soul being? (Assuming we have had a number of previous incarnate lives, and as a soul being we not only exist in spirit and are conscious of that existence but we also continue to learn and develop in spirit as a whole soul.)

Q2: What type of personality do you think you might have as a whole soul and what type of personality would you like to have?

Q3: Could you enhance and develop your current earth personality to align with your anticipated whole soul personality?

Please let me know your thoughts and ideas by email. I would love to get your views.

In the next Newsletter I will share my own thoughts and ideas.

4.0 Title – Intense Light in Watercolour by Titus Meeuws:

I was asked recently about local watercolour workshops as there did not seem to be many available compared to other media in the south Devon area. To help, here is a video from You Tube which may be of some guidance. Titus is based in Holland and is a wonderful watercolour artist. Please enjoy. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
