1375 Light Years of Past Oil Painting

1375 Light Years of Past Oil Painting1375 Light Years of Past Oil Painting is produced using a mixed media approach. I began the painting by adhering various materials to the paper to create interesting textures and create a sense of timeless atmosphere. Inks and other water based media were used to begin the layering of colours. The painting was then sealed prior to applying oil colour for added depth and finishing.

The painting is produced on Saunders Waterford watercolour paper and measures 65cm x 47cm.

The painting is an abstract representational piece that represents the eternal nature of time and the interplay of light, age and distance. The horse head nebula depicted in the painting is what existed approximately 1375 light years ago it is what we see in the sky above, it is not however what would be left of this cosmic feature today. Most of the gases and other material may well have dispersed and not be visible at all. The oldest cave drawings in existence on earth are approximately 35,000 thousand years old. Other features of the painting are objects of today.

Although we may exist in an eternal state the physical forms of all that is is in a state of change. Our spiritual existence is no different, we may have eternal existence but we continue to develop.
